Redlands City Council
DISTRICT 4
DISTRICT 2
Jenna Guzman-Lowery
Redlands YIMBY is proud to endorse Jenna Guzman-Lowery for the 2024 Redlands City Council District 4 race. Councilmember Guzman-Lowery has been a champion for more housing in our city. From founding the Housing Policy Council, to introducing items before the Council to make it less expensive to build more housing, she has proven herself to be an active pro-housing voice on the Council. We support her reelection campaign and encourage all those in District 4 who care about the cost of living to give her your vote.
For the State Legislature races, Redlands YIMBY has chosen to carry the endorsements given by the statewide group California YIMBY. To see all of their endorsements, you can visit their website.
Jennifer Maravillas
& Eddie Tejeda
For District 2, Redlands YIMBY has chosen to not make an endorsement. Redlands YIMBY received completed questionnaires from both Eddie Tejeda and Jennifer Maravillas. We thoroughly reviewed their answers, their records, and their comments. We ultimately determined that in the aggregate both are generally
pro-housing, and that the differences between them on housing are not so significant as to warrant an endorsement of one over the other. Our endorsements are based solely on housing, so instead we advise our members in District 2 to vote based on other issues.
State Legislature:
Senate District 29
Eloise Gomez Reyes
For Senate District 29, Redlands YIMBY endorses Eloise Gomez Reyes for the Senate! Assembly Majority Leader Emerita Reyes has long been a champion for YIMBY bills in the legislature, and we could not be any happier to give her our endorsement as she goes for the Senate. We've met with her and her office multiple times and have complete confidence in her and her team.
Assembly District 45
James Ramos
For Assembly District 45, Redlands YIMBY endorses James Ramos for the Assembly! Assemblymember Ramos has been a consistent YES vote on YIMBY bills, and his staff has met with us before. We are happy to support Ramos for reelection!
State Ballot Propositions
For the State Ballot Propositions, Redlands YIMBY had a discussion and held a vote to take a position at one of our monthly meetings.
Proposition 5: YES
Redlands YIMBY recommends voting YES on Prop 5 to fund more housing! Prop 5 will lower the voting threshold for local funding measures from 67% to 55%, which will make it easier to fund new housing, transit, and other essential public services. Besides making it easier to fund the housing we desperately need, Prop 5 is good governance. 1/3 of the electorate simply should not be able to override the will of 2/3 of the electorate. We urge you to vote YES on Prop 5!
Proposition 33: NO
Redlands YIMBY recommends voting NO on Prop 33 to protect housing feasibility. Prop 33 would repeal the Costa Hawkins Act, which prevents cities from enacting rent control on new homes. This is important because if cities can enact rent control on new homes, they can hurt the feasibility of building new homes (i.e. they won't "pencil"). This will make our housing crisis much worse, as California's housing market is supply-constrained. Some NIMBY local electeds in the state have already admitted that they would intentionally use Prop 33 to effectively block new housing, so its passage would be a major setback after all of the progress we've made at the state level. That's why we strongly urge you to vote NO on Prop 33!
Assembly District 50
Robert Garcia
For Assembly District 50, we endorse Robert Garcia. Garcia is an educator, has earned the California YIMBY endorsement, and we hope to see him join the Assembly.
